Hi, I’m Melinda. I’m a mum, teacher and an author!
I love to engage children in the wonder of books and value the natural form of storytelling as a tool for learning.
I have always loved to write but this has mostly been in the form of keeping diaries. I have often jotted down my personal thoughts and documented various events that have taken place in my life; often for cathartic reasons or for ways to process these events.
It wasn’t until I had my own children, however, that it reignited my inner child, drawing inspiration from the wonder and creative imagination that children possess. My children and I would often tell stories about their toys, creating adventures for them and bringing them to life. This is where the ‘Little Lemur’ character was born!
As a teacher, I am always trying to emphasise the learning that can be drawn from literature, and have always loved to use picture books to introduce a mathematical concept, or reinforce a skill. It was a natural progression to write a story about counting, with the intention that it will ultimately help children.
